Wow..My first post! I’m gonna warn you now, I’m not a blogger. This is way out of my comfort zone so I appreciate your patience as I learn how and what to write about. 😜Thanks for coming along on this journey with me!
For my first post, I wanted to share a bit about how I came to commit to this big decision.
I’ll start off by saying, this has been a very hard year for me. I won’t bore you with every detail, but between my Grandpa passing away in January and my family and I getting stuck in a war zone in February (while violently ill with the flu🙃), this year has not been kind to me. But God has been SO good and has drawn near to me every single time I’ve felt broken.
March + April: My family and I arrived home safely from Israel on March 5th and soon after, I started feeling the pull to look into another mission. I was convinced that it was just my sadness from having to come home early from the last mission so I ignored it.
May: Right as I was walking through one of the most painful weeks of my life, the nudge came back.. but much stronger. This time I told myself I was trying to run away from the pain I was feeling… but I just couldn’t shrug the pull. At the end of the month, I finally asked God to tell me plainly if I should go. The next day, I tried out a new church that I just happened to pass on my way home from work. The pastor explained that this wasn’t going to be their normal sermon; it was their missions day. A day where every missionary they partner with spoke about their work on the field. One missionary that stood out to me finished his presentation with a series of questions. The first being, “What can you do? You can go.” I immediately knew God was speaking to me.
June: I officially committed the next day on June 1st during my lunch break. The rest of my shift, I felt peaceful but I was still battling fears that this wasn’t from God. Was I making this decision as a way to “escape” from all the pain and hurt in my life here?
After work, I went home to find a package (that I had ordered a month prior) in the mailbox. Two pieces of jewelry from a company that prays over your name and sends an encouraging message based on what they believe God is speaking to you. This is what the first one said:
“God has chosen you for the very work you don't feel qualified for. The greatest callings always come with fear and the need for reliance on the Lord. Don't let the voice of fear or insecurity keep you from walking in all that God has planned for you.He knows who you are and what you bring to the table. He's not asking you to have everything figured out—He's asking you to trust His decision to invite you into the mission. God has perfect judgment, and He has chosen you for such a time as this, for work such as this.“
I immediately felt the peace of God wash over me as He reassured me that this was His will and that He called me to this. The second card was also very relevant to this mission, but I’ll talk about that at another time 😜
It’s been just under two weeks since I committed and I’m trying to remember to lean on God for every decision, every doubt, and every worry. It hasn’t been easy since I have about 2 months to prepare for the next year of my life. No biggie! 🫠
Things I’m currently working on:
-
Vaccines and medicines for each of the 11 countries. Trying to figure out which ones are necessary and which ones I can skip.
-
Gathering supplies needed… and learning what is essential vs a luxury.
-
Fundraising the daunting amount of $22,500. 😬 God’s got this!
Anyways, I’ll leave that there! Thanks for reading! Please continue to pray for me and my squad as we prepare for the work God has called us to.
