These last few weeks have been…busy. Between meetings with Adventures in Missions staff, meeting with friends and family to share about my mission, sending out letters, posting updates and videos, doctor appointments, researching gear… all while working full-time and investing in friendships, life has been full. But wow, has God been using this time to stretch me!!
In the business, I’ve had to be very intentional about keeping God my top priority. I’ll be honest, some days, spending time with Him is the last thing I do before I go to sleep. And even then, there have been days when I fall asleep mid-prayer or mid-study. Other days are better. But I know God knows my heart.
Last week, I was beginning to feel tired and discouraged with “no’s,” even though I know that’s part of the support raising process. I was putting in so much work, but somewhere along the way, my focus shifted from trusting God as my provider to thinking, “I’m not doing enough to get to where I need to be.”
The Lord revealed that shift and reminded me that this mission was never something I was meant to accomplish through my own strength. And then, Saturday happened.
Looking back, I can see three specific ways the Lord reminded me that He is my provider.
1. “Coincidental” meeting
I had two meetings planned. After finishing my second meeting, I ended up running into a friend from work and some of her friends. They asked about my mission trip, and we ended up having a wonderful conversation. Even better, one of those friends came to the young adult group I attend later that evening!
Little did I know, that conversation would turn into another incredible way God was opening a door. After hearing more about my mission, this friend decided to partner with me through his business by doing a $1,000 matching challenge! He will match donations up to $1,000 toward my fundraising goal.
2. Surprise gift
As I left that spontaneous conversation, I checked my page and saw that someone had made a generous donation after a friend shared my mission with him. The week leading up to this had been a pretty slow week in terms of fundraising, so it was a reminder that the Lord has plans.
What a blessing!
3. Provision for a practical need
One of the required gear items for the World Race is a hiking backpack, so I had been searching Facebook Marketplace. I messaged a woman about one without realizing she lived in Ohio. After we chatted for a bit, I apologized and said I’d have to pass because it was a long drive and I wasn’t even sure the backpack would fit me.
She started recommending other backpacks, and as we talked, I explained what I needed it for.
After hearing it was for a mission trip, she told me she had a friend traveling to Michigan this week and would love to send the backpack with them, for free, as a way to support my mission! It’s a backpack that definitely isn’t cheap and I had been worrying about finding the right one. I just picked it up and it is a perfect fit! Almost like God ordained the whole thing..😉
What has been even more amazing, is seeing that God isn’t just providing for me, He’s also working in the hearts of the people He is using to provide. The woman who gifted me the backpack shared that she is moving soon and was praying about not having to move with the bigger items..this backpack included! It was a reminder that God’s provision blesses everyone involved. He works through His people when they faithfully follow His leading, and everyone gets to be part of what He is doing.
I still have a long way to go. There are still fears I have to surrender to the Lord daily (sometimes hourly, lol), but He has been so patient with me. Every time I try to take control again, He gently reminds me that already sees the outcome. He is working behind the scenes, in the details, and in ways I never could have planned myself.
I’m sure there are many more things He has done and is doing that I don’t even see yet, but I wanted to share some of the bigger moments that have stood out to me recently.
As always, if you would like to support me, here is some info on how to give!
